Welcome to the online art studio, aka the wired atelier*!

This blog is designed for students and families in Allison Fuller-Mulloy's SMHS Art Classes. It is a site for posting our daily work and homework (IWs) each week, ideas and images to explore further, reminders and due dates. I hope this blog will help students by reinforcing the week's major ideas and activities, giving make-up work for absentees, and providing families a look into the atelier every day!

We're going to Use the Elements of Art... Week 3

Art 1 students review, sing, utilize and quiz on the Elements of Art this week... much to their chagrin, but it works! Students also began introductory projects focusing on each Element and allowing them to become familiar with different art media as well. Students' 1st project is to create drawings with colored pencils focusing on Shape & Pattern. After creating a 2 inch border (and flexing some math skills) on their papers, students divide their compositional space in to geometric and organic shapes. Next they use the principle of Repetition to create patterns within each shape. The resulting pieces are bright, colorful, and fun! If there is time, students will also create a Line Relief Sculpture, Value Study, and Positive/Negative Space silhouette. If there is not time, those projects will carry over to next week!

Art 3/AP/IB DP students refresh their drawing skills this week by creating 3 contour drawings. the 1st subject is a chair in class. They focused on positive/negative space and creating dynamic compositions. Next, they create a contour drawing of an object from a pocket/purse. Lastly, they create a contour drawing of leaves. They will then choose 1 drawing to alter, using the contour drawing as a foundation for a more interesting work of art.
