Welcome to the online art studio, aka the wired atelier*!

This blog is designed for students and families in Allison Fuller-Mulloy's SMHS Art Classes. It is a site for posting our daily work and homework (IWs) each week, ideas and images to explore further, reminders and due dates. I hope this blog will help students by reinforcing the week's major ideas and activities, giving make-up work for absentees, and providing families a look into the atelier every day!

The second checkpoint for completion is Wednesday (1/25), the first 10 works are due. The next 5 works and corresponding IW entries, for a total of 15 complete, will be due next Wednesday (2/1).

In addition, all students are creating Artist Statements in their IWs. A guide for writing an Artist Statement can be found here. Artist statements should be typed and published to the correct folder on the wiki by FRIDAY (1/27)! Finally, students will begin working on a studio project while continuing their written and research work in and out of class.

Art 1 classes will be completing some drawing exercises aimed at refreshing our realistic drawing skills. Both group and individual grid drawings will challenge students to focus on drawing from reality instead of perception.

Advanced Art classes will be working on the 12 Peppers project. For this assignment, students will be creating 12 identical images on 4x4" paper of an everyday object as subject, creating each one using a different medium. All 12 pieces will be mounted to one board to create one work of art. As always, a full IW should accompany each project.

Open Studio Nights

Mrs. Mulloy will be opening the Art studio from 6-8pm most Thursday nights for students who need time, space, and access to supplies to work on projects for her Visual Arts classes. Students should park near the middle school entrance and enter through the door closest to Mrs. Mulloy's room.

Students who plan to attend should double check with Mrs. Mulloy each week; if no students plan on attending, Open Studio will be cancelled for that evening.

Week 19: A New Semester

All Art students begin this semster by reviewing the tardy and attendance policies, teacher expectations for students, a discussion of last quarter's generous grades, and writing reflections. The first refletion required in the IW is about 1st semester. Students will write at least a half page reflecting on how their time went, what they learned, did well, didn't do well, etc. Next, students will create a half page of goals for 2nd semster. What do they want to do, learn, improve on, accomplish, etc.? These reflections are due this week.

All students also begin preparing this week for the Top 20 Works of Art to Know (according to Mrs. Mulloy) research assignment they will be completing in and out of class. Students copy requirements for research into their IWs as a reference for each piece they will look up. Students spend time in the computer lab this week making wiki accounts, learning the Top 20 works, and beginnging their research to complete an IW about each. We will be working on this research for the next few weeks in class, and students must know all 20 pieces for their Final exam in May.
