Welcome to the online art studio, aka the wired atelier*!

This blog is designed for students and families in Allison Fuller-Mulloy's SMHS Art Classes. It is a site for posting our daily work and homework (IWs) each week, ideas and images to explore further, reminders and due dates. I hope this blog will help students by reinforcing the week's major ideas and activities, giving make-up work for absentees, and providing families a look into the atelier every day!

Week 30.. Chops, Blocks, Typography, and Surrealism

Art 1 students researched Chinese Chops, linoleum block printmaking, and the art of logo design. Students then created their own design for a personal logo. Once their designs were made, students transferred their designs onto linoleum blocks and carved them out. Students then created traditional red prints of their chops.

Advanced Art students began working on 2 different assignments based on photographic images that will be due after Spring Break. The first is a Typography Contour Drawing of a photograph, using lines of type instead of drawn lines. Students will explore how Typography can become a design element and be used as drawings instead of just lines to read. The second assignment is a Surrealist linoleum block carving and print. Students will take a photographic image and reproduce it as a linoleum block print, adding images or elements to transform the realistic image into a Surreal image.

All entries of the Top 20 are now due the Monday after Spring Break for a test grade.
